Michael is an entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience creating and managing technology companies from inception to product. He has raised over $6M in equity capital for an emerging startup company in high-power laser devices. He negotiated cooperative development agreements and contract research and development work with major Universities and international companies such as Stanford, Boston University, University of Bremen, University of California Santa Barbara, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, and Ushio. By providing a solid foundation and a US Patent Portfolio, technologies were licensed to manufacturers generating over $2M in revenue. Expertise in high-volume manufacturing of semiconductor and laser devices from supply chain to final product. In addition to his manufacturing expertise, he is a sought-after technology consultant for novel product development and currently consults with eBeam, Inc. on DARPA’s LUSTER program for high-power deep-UV lasers.
Kristin founded Fluency based on technology developed at UC Santa Barbara during her doctoral work and spun-out of the New Venture Competition held annually at UCSB. She has over 10 years of experience working in materials science and engineering and has published numerous scientific papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and several patents in the field of solid-state lighting. Kristin graduated with her BS in Materials Science and Engineering from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 2010. She then went on to receive her doctorate in Materials from UCSB in 2015, with a research focus on phosphor materials for solid-state lighting under the guidance of Professor Ram Seshadri. Kristin also completed the Graduate Program in Management Practice Certificate from the Technology Management Program at UCSB in 2014, focused on providing a foundation in business and management skills.
Minoo is a 25+ year business development executive, experienced in all facets of emerging technologies and businesses. Her expertise includes market evaluation and analysis, new product and service development, IP and product licensing agreements, and potential investor identification and readiness. On the operations side, she has established job descriptions for all levels of personnel including technical, negotiated supply chain vendor agreements, and managed teams of more than 18 people, both direct and matrixed. Across her professional life, she has driven the design-in of leading edge technologies, including those in digital TV, speech synthesis and recognition, and interactive media. While with the US Semiconductor subsidiary of N.V. Philips, she joined the newly established Business Unit, and within 1 year, generated enough design-ins to propel the Business Unit to the number one position, with $5M in potential royalties. Her customers were startups to Fortune 500 multinationals, including Toshiba. She co-founded a startup at the advent of the multimedia industry, Eden Interactive, which went on to win industry awards for technology application and interaction design. The company received international acclaim, and a pre-funding valuation of $8M, and its product, American Visions, was the first software product to be reviewed by Scientific American.
