Kristin founded Fluency based on technology developed at UC Santa Barbara during her doctoral work and spun-out of the New Venture Competition held annually at UCSB. She has over 10 years of experience working in materials science and engineering and has published numerous scientific papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and several patents in the field of solid-state lighting. Kristin graduated with her BS in Materials Science and Engineering from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 2010. She then went on to receive her doctorate in Materials from UCSB in 2015, with a research focus on phosphor materials for solid-state lighting under the guidance of Professor Ram Seshadri. Kristin also completed the Graduate Program in Management Practice Certificate from the Technology Management Program at UCSB in 2014, focused on providing a foundation in business and management skills.
